The ruble rose sharply after the statements of the Russian Foreign Ministry that “even the thought” of a war with Ukraine is “unacceptable”

The dollar exchange rate during trading on the Moscow Exchange on January 27 fell by almost 2 rubles and by 16:51 Moscow time it was worth 77.5 rubles. The euro at the same time fell to the mark of 86.42 rubles, having fallen in price by almost 3 rubles.

Interfax-CEA experts link the strengthening of the ruble against the dollar and the euro with the statements of the Russian Foreign Ministry on the current foreign policy situation, and primarily on the  unacceptability of the war between Russia and Ukraine.

Thus, according to Alexei Zaitsev, Deputy Director of the Information and Press Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Russia has repeatedly stated that it is not going to attack anyone. The diplomat stressed that Moscow considers “even the idea of a war between our peoples unacceptable.”

On the eve of the conflict over Ukraine, the euro rose above 90 rubles, and the dollar exceeded 80 rubles.

Russia has been pulling troops to the Ukrainian borders for several months. In the West, they fear that Moscow is preparing a military invasion, and threaten to impose sanctions in response. The Kremlin denies this.

  1. Economy 101 to Russia. Russia threatens Ukraine, US threaten sanctions, ruble drops, stock market drops. Russia says it won’t invade Ukraine, ruble rises, stock market climbs. Is there a connection that Muscovy don’t see?

      • It is possible that this statement indicates that Russian oligarchs and bankers have expressed their concerns to Putin about the financial hemorrhage that his actions have caused and the disastrous effects that an actual invasion would bring.

  2. I hope this is true. Ukraine in Nato does not mean to become hostile towards RuSSia. It would mean that Ukraine is protected. This stability could ease tensions, once Ukraine and RuSSia are even, instead of master-slave abuse.

    • There may be more positive developments from this crisis.
Putin has given NATO a gift.
Sweden and Finland have considered joining , the Eastern European allies have been particularly staunch . He has given NATO not only renewed life but vigor.
Also Germany has been exposed as an unreliable member of the alliance.
For anyone who may think that Putin is any type of chess master…… it’s looking more like checkmate for him.

  3. That’s an insignificant rise and not a sharp rise.
At any rate, I think that the oligarchs have become quite concerned about their booty. They’ve lost a lot already and not even a single shot has been fired yet. I can imagine hundreds of billions getting burned right along with Ruskie tanks. The runt can’t ignore his fellow crooks when it comes to their loot, that’s for sure.
