The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine supported the ban on the activities of pro-Russian parties in Ukraine (draft law 7172-1).

According to people’s deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak, 330 people’s deputies voted for the corresponding decision.play video

“The Rada banned the activities of pro-Russian parties (7172-1). 330 votes,” he wrote.

According to him, “no one raised or blocked the edits.” In addition, former members of the faction of the Opposition Platform – For Life party voted for the bill. 

17 ex-OPLE members voted “for”: 12 deputies from the new group (“Platform for Life and Peace”) and 5 more deputies from the Opposition Platform for Life, who are now non-factional,” the people’s deputy noted.

The corresponding bill was filed on March 28, 2022. On April 1, it was adopted in the first reading. 

This bill provides for a ban on political parties that justify or deny Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine.

As one of the authors of the bill, People’s Deputy of Ukraine Olha Sovgirya , said on Facebook, in the event of a court banning a political party that formed a parliamentary faction in the Verkhovna Rada, such a parliamentary faction, after the court decision on the ban on the political party enters into legal force, is declared dissolved by the chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

She notes that the draft law provides for new norms of the Rules of Procedure of the Verkhovna Rada, a people’s deputy who did not join the parliamentary faction (including after the deputies’ faction was declared dissolved), who was expelled or left the parliamentary faction, is non-factional.
