The Rada allowed some categories of prisoners to mobilize into the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine: what is known

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine allowed some categories of prisoners to mobilize into the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Bill No. 11079-1 was adopted in the second reading with 279 votes.

People’s Deputy Alexey Goncharenko announced this. He also noted that those convicted of serious premeditated murder, rape, sexual violence, or crimes against the foundations of national security will not be mobilized.

According to the parliamentarian, he is a co-author of this bill.

“I have long defended the position that those imprisoned for non-serious offenses should receive the right to defend their homeland, and registered the corresponding bill. We must give convicts the opportunity to fight if they want,” the people’s deputy noted.

Let us remind you that on Wednesday, May 8, deputies of the Verkhovna Rada by a majority vote supported bills No. 11234 and No. 11235 on extending martial law and general mobilization for another 90 days. These regimes will remain in effect until at least August 11, 2024.

As OBOZ.UA reported:

– Speaker of the State Border Guard Service Andrey Demchenko said that due to the new law on mobilization in Ukraine, which will come into force on May 18, 2024, the Cabinet of Ministers will make changes to the rules of border crossing . In particular, they will concern persons entitled to a deferment.

– The Ukrainian authorities have submitted to the Council of Europe an application for a temporary partial derogation from compliance with the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Freedoms (ECHR) for the duration of martial law. We are talking about restricting the freedom of movement of citizens, inspecting things and forcibly confiscating property for the needs of the state under martial law.

    I fully agree.
There once was a time in the US in which young men who got into trouble with the law were given the opportunity to serve in the military instead of being locked up. I don’t know if this is still being practiced.
