The Putin Republicans
Tucker Carlson is one of America’s most prominent populist leaders. He says “Vladimir Putin is not any more evil than Joe Biden. Putin, who has been there for 25 years, his country has improved, people are happier. They like him, actually.”

We are not Joe Biden fans but the former president stepped down from power which is something Putin would never do. A strong case can be made that Carlson should register as a foreign agent. Journalists paid by a foreign government to produce content aimed at US audiences must register and disclose it. Failing to do so is a federal crime.
I don’t know if Carlson is paid but we are glad his propaganda is being answered. Professor Michael McFaul of Stanford University previously served as US Ambassador to Russia and yesterday responded to several of Carlson’s claims:
(1) Putin kills innocent civilians in Ukraine every day.
(2) He started a senseless war.
(3) He has slaughtered or injured 1.3 million of his own citizens. Putin is gleefully feeding his own young people into a meat grinder. This is making Russians happy?
(4) He murdered many of his main political opponents including opposition leaders Boris Nemtsov in 2015 and Alexey Navalny in 2024.
He also murdered former ally and attempted rebellion leader Prigozhin in 2023. Many other political opponents were murdered including at least 14 journalists, and thousands of people have been jailed for political reasons.
(5) He installed a totalitarian regime (popular leaders don’t have to stifle media and civil society).
Other than that, he’s a great guy.”
Trevor Loudon has been calling out Russian propaganda for many years with excellent videos.
Why don’t we ignore Carlson? Because he has a huge following on the populist right and someone should answer him. Tucker always claims he is against war, unless it’s perpetrated by the Russian terrorist state.

A high propensity of people Putin hates keep falling out of windows. Ben Wallace served as the UK’s Secretary of State for Defense from 2019 to 2023 and says “Russia is a gangster state run by a gangster. There is no rule of law, no truth – just ‘might is right’ and corruption is encouraged.
“What do you do with gangsters? You put them in prison. So we should build a wall around them and leave them to it.”
Putin has systematically extinguished the light of liberty. There is no debate because if you express opposition to the dictatorship you are jailed.
There is no free press or right to gather in the town square and petition for change. The Russian people are confronted with the cold iron of autocracy. They are subjects rather than citizens, and their voices have been silenced.

At the same time, peace without accountability for the aggressor would be merely a pause in hostilities and a signal to other authoritarian regimes that aggression can go unpunished, the Head of the Office of the President said during the Justice Conference.

Kyrylo Budanov explained that Russia’s war against Ukraine has three key dimensions:

1️⃣ First, Moscow is testing the global order and the viability of international institutions by violating the UN Charter and international treaties.
2️⃣ Second, this is an existential war: Russia has been waging it against Ukraine for a long time because an independent Ukraine undermines the Kremlin’s imperial ambitions.
3️⃣ Third, Putin sees Ukraine as a pathway to restoring spheres of influence of the former USSR in Europe, Asia, Africa, and even the American continent — but Ukraine has stood in the way of these plans.
