Fico’s condition is very serious.
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico was attacked after a government meeting in the city of Handlova, 190 kilometers from Bratislava. As teraz.sk reports , Fico was injured as a result of the shooting and is currently being taken to the hospital.
According to eyewitnesses, a man from the crowd started shooting at the prime minister after he came out to the public, three or four shots were allegedly fired.
Eyewitnesses note that after the shots, the prime minister fell, and was quickly taken to the car.
A woman standing near Fico told Denník N newspaper that she saw blood on his head and chest.
“There was a crowd of people standing outside, and one of them started shooting. He was immediately calmed down and detained, the prime minister was taken away by bodyguards. According to our information, the shooter should have aimed at the prime minister himself,” eyewitnesses said.
Nothing is yet known about the motives of the criminal’s actions.
According to Pravda , the prime minister was wounded in the stomach and chest. It is noted that the prime minister’s condition is very serious, he was taken to Bratislava hospital by helicopter.
Updated 16.57. The Slovak publication Plus Jeden Den writes, citing a “well-informed source”, that Fico was wounded in the hand and stomach, and that he is in serious condition, but the injuries are not life-threatening.
According to TV Joj, the man who shot Robert Fico was a 71-year-old native of the Slovak city of Levice. The police are investigating his motives.
