Pope says the losing side must “have the courage” to negotiate.
Pope Francis said that in the conflict in Ukraine, the losing side must find the courage to admit it and agree to negotiate. The Pontiff stated this in a television interview with a Swiss television and radio company, writes Reuters .
In the interview, Francis was asked about his position in the debate between those who say Ukraine should surrender because it has failed to repel Russian forces and those who say this would legitimize Russia’s actions. The interviewer used the term “white flag” in the question.
“This is one interpretation. But I believe that the one who looks at the situation, thinks about the people, has the courage to raise the white flag and negotiate will be stronger,” Francis said. – The word “negotiations” is a bold word. When you see that you have been defeated, that things are not going well, you need to have the courage to negotiate,” Francis said, adding that negotiations must take place with the help of international powers.
This is believed to be the first time Francis has used terms such as “white flag” or “defeat” when discussing the war in Ukraine, although he has spoken in the past about the need for negotiations.
“You can feel shame, but with how many dead will this (war) end? (We need) to negotiate on time, to find a country that can mediate,” Francis said, mentioning Turkey among such countries.

This makes me wonder if he has read the Old Testament recently. Imho, as a renegade catholic, fairy tales by ancient propagandists, but still a part of the official bible of the church. Instead, he acted very unreasonable, according to the reasoning of Pope Francis, and fought back. How to explain this stubborn refusal to surrender? Seems to me that the Pope, well meaning as I believe his is, is badly misadviced. 🤨

I could understand general church language that attempts to appease. His apostolate is not in the promotion of weapons or military strategy. But still. There are limits that even the solemnity, calm and peace of the most blessed chapel could not tolerate.
Rapes and murders of children and women by the thousands and we must raise the white flag?! This church is a disgrace. When we mix gospel messages with politics it results in this kind of media disaster.
