As a result of a US drone strike in Syria, a high-ranking leader of the al-Qaeda group, Abdul Hamid al-Matara, was killed on October 22.

The death of the leader “will disrupt the terrorist organization’s ability to further plan and carry out global attacks that threaten US citizens, our partners and innocent civilians,” said Major John Rigsby. He added that there is no data on civilian casualties as a result of the strike.
