Earlier this week, Ireland officially recognized Palestine as a state.

Seven months ago, Hamas kidnapped an eight-year-old Irish-Israeli girl and held her hostage for 50 days in harrowing conditions.

Emily Hand was barely able to speak after her release, as she was ordered to remain silent during captivity.

The notion of rewarding Hamas with statehood in the wake of such a heinous act is not only absurd but also a gross miscarriage of justice.

The decision of the Irish Government sends a dangerous message that brutality and the suffering of innocent children are acceptable paths to political gain.
