The Netherlands called on EU countries to transfer more air defense systems and missiles from their own stocks to Ukraine

The Netherlands has called on European allies to provide Ukraine with additional air defense systems and interceptor missiles from their stockpiles, the government said, stressing that aid to Ukraine should not be halted due to concerns about its own defense capabilities.

This was stated by Dutch State Secretary for Defense Derk Boswijk at the European Conference on Defense and Security in Brussels, Censor.NET reports with reference to  Rapporteur .

According to Boswijk, the Netherlands understands the concerns of other states about the possible depletion of their own weapons stocks. At the same time, the country continues to provide Ukraine with means to repel Russian air attacks.

“We in the Netherlands understand the concerns about air defense and protecting our own country, but this does not prevent us from providing Ukraine with what it needs today,” the official emphasized.

The Netherlands reminded about the transfer of Patriot to Ukraine

Boswijk noted that the Netherlands was among the first countries to provide Ukraine with a complete Patriot air defense system, along with radar, as well as a significant number of interceptor missiles.

In addition, the Dutch government is considering purchasing additional equipment from the United States.

According to the official, some EU states have sufficient air defense assets to increase military assistance to Ukraine.

“Some countries have large reserves, and I understand their concerns, but I believe that supporting Ukraine and providing it with what it needs is in the interests of all of us,” Boswijk said.

A call to countries reluctant to transfer air defense assets

The Dutch official separately appealed to European governments, which have so far refrained from transferring a significant portion of their air defense capabilities.

He emphasized that additional systems and missiles will help Ukraine protect civilians from Russian attacks.

“I would strongly urge these countries to please provide something to Ukraine, because it saves lives. We in the Netherlands have done this. Please follow our example,” Boswijk said. Джерело: https://censor.net/ua/n4031261
