The Moscow prosecutor’s office demanded the liquidation of the human rights center “Memorial” due to the fact that this organization allegedly justifies terrorism and extremism.
This reason, together with the absence of the “foreign agent” label, is indicated in the lawsuit filed by the prosecutor’s office with the Moscow City Court.
In the materials of the center, “Memorial” quotes the lawsuit of the prosecutor’s office, “there are linguistic and psychological signs of justifying the activities of members of the international terrorist and extremist organizations Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami, Tablighi Jamaat, At-Takfir Wal Hijra”, as well as extremist organizations Artpodgotovka and Jehovah’s Witnesses (all of these organizations are banned in Russia). “
The prosecutor’s office states that in the materials of Memorial, the activities of these organizations are presented “as lawful and permissible,” and participation in them is “as one of the forms of exercising the right to freedom of religion.”
The matter concerns the list of political prisoners, which “Memorial” has been keeping since 2008, and information on individual cases, according to the human rights center.
Memorial called the claims of the prosecutor’s office absurd.
All our information on recognition as political prisoners separately noted that such recognition does not mean either the agreement of the Memorial Human Rights Center with the views and statements of the person, much less approval of his statements and actions.
The preliminary meeting of the Moscow City Court on the claim of the prosecutor’s office for the liquidation of the human rights center “Memorial” is scheduled for November 23.
At the same time, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation appealed to the Supreme Court with a demand to liquidate International Memorial for violating the law on “foreign agents”. Consideration of the claim is scheduled for November 25.
