In the closed city of Severomorsk in the Murmansk region, home to the main naval base of the Russian Northern Fleet, the collapse of five transmission towers on Rosseti lines has resulted in a power outage, and naval vessels have been switched to emergency generators. “We are working in coordination with the Severomorsk Power Plant and the Northern Fleet. To free up power, street lighting has been shut off, and the ships have been switched to autonomous power supply,” Mayor Vladimir Yevmenkov announced on the morning of January 24. He also urged residents to “reduce electricity consumption in their apartments as much as possible” during the repair work.

A blackout also occurred in Murmansk, regional Governor Andrei Chibis reported on Friday evening, convening a meeting of the emergency response team. He ordered the region to declare a state of high alert for emergencies. On Saturday morning, the regional governor announced that due to “serious damage to five power transmission towers,” power would not be restored for at least 24 hours. He asked residents to “be understanding” about the difficulties and, if possible, limit the use of electrical appliances and equipment.

Due to the power outage, both cities are also experiencing heating and hot water outages, according to government reports. According to Yevmenkov, this particularly affected residents of the villages of  Safonovo, Safonovo-1, and the Kortik microdistrict in Severomorsk, where boilers were shut down.  Warming stations have been opened at several city schools, kindergartens, and two community centers.

Rosseti reported that snowfall, gusty winds, and frost on the wires and structures themselves caused the collapse of the transmission towers.  “During the night, power was restored to some of the lost consumers, including those at socially important facilities, using backup sources. Installation of replacement structures for the damaged transmission towers is ongoing,” the company stated . Chibis previously reported on the delivery of new towers from the Leningrad Region and Karelia.

A criminal case has been opened under Article 293, Part 1 of the Russian Criminal Code in connection with a large-scale blackout in populated areas of the Murmansk Region,  the regional office of the Russian Investigative Committee reported .

The 43rd Division of Missile Ships and several naval brigades are based at Severomorsk. These include the heavy aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov, the heavy nuclear-powered missile cruiser Pyotr Velikiy, as well as several destroyers, frigates, and large anti-submarine ships.

  1. Another failure of mafia land’s energy infrastructure, and again, it happened all on its own without Ukrainian assistance.

  2. Mafia land is now feeling the cosequences of decades of corruption, from the elite robbing the country blind.

    • Yes, and the end of this slow-motion collapse is not in sight, nor will it be in our lifetimes. It would take every penny the fascist rodent has burned so far in his useless war to repair the country and get it close to Western standards.
