The General Staff confirmed the damage to the Lukoil-Nizhegorodorgsintez refinery in the Nizhny Novgorod region of the Russian Federation on the night of May 20. The AVT-6 primary oil processing unit was put out of action there, and a fire broke out.
This is stated in a statement by the General Staff. The military also spoke about the consequences of the strike on the Yaroslavl-3 oil pumping station the day before: at least four tanks were damaged there, and there are results of the strikes in the occupied territory of Ukraine as well.
Strike on the refinery in Kstovo
The General Staff stated that on May 19 and the night of May 20, 2026, units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine inflicted heavy losses on a number of important objects of the Russian occupiers.
“In particular, the AVT-6 primary oil processing unit was hit, followed by a fire at the Lukoil-Nizhny Novgorodorgsintez refinery near the settlement of Kstovo, Nizhny Novgorod region of the Russian Federation,” the report says.

OBOZ.UA reported on this attack on the morning of May 20.
The Lukoil-Nizhegorodnaftoorgsintez refinery is one of the largest oil refineries in the Russian Federation. It is capable of processing up to 17 million tons of oil per year. This makes it the fourth largest refinery in Russia and the second largest among the refineries owned by Lukoil.
The enterprise provided about 10–11% of all automobile gasoline production in Russia. The refinery also covered about 30% of the fuel needs of Moscow and the Moscow region.
But most importantly, the plant produces gasoline, diesel, and aviation fuel to meet the needs of the Russian occupation forces. And it was precisely because of the beginning of the Russian Federation’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine that the facility became a strategic target – due to its critical role in the economy and supplying the army.
Attack on the NPS “Yaroslavl-3”
The General Staff also revealed the results of the damage to the Yaroslavl-3 oil pumping station in Semibratovo (Yaroslavl region of the Russian Federation): damage to four tanks with a total volume of 140,000 m³ was previously confirmed.
“The station is an important element of the oil transportation system of the Russian Federation and is involved in ensuring the military-industrial infrastructure of the aggressor state,” the General Staff emphasized.
A series of strikes were carried out on occupiers’ facilities in the occupied territory of Ukraine and in Kursk region
The Defense Forces also paid attention to the occupiers present on Ukrainian soil – in particular, in the parts of Ukrainian regions occupied by Russia.
In particular, on May 19-20, enemy control points in Soledar, Donetsk region, and command and observation posts of the occupiers in the areas of Lyubymivka, Kherson region, and Ivanovske in the Donetsk region were hit.

Ukrainian defenders also struck enemy UAV control points in the areas of Piddubny and Perestroika in the Donetsk region, Gulyaipol in the Zaporizhia region, and Elizavetovka in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation.

In addition, Ukrainian soldiers struck at enemy manpower concentrations in the Novoukrainka area of Zaporizhia region and in Myrne, Snizhne, and the city of Donetsk in the Donetsk region.

The aggressor’s ammunition depot in the Marynivka area of Zaporizhia region and the enemy’s repair unit in Seversko-Donetsk in Luhansk region were also hit.

“The Ukrainian Defense Forces will continue to systematically take measures to completely stop the Russian Federation’s armed aggression against Ukraine,” the General Staff assured.
As OBOZ.UA reported, on the night of May 20, an occupiers’ UAV manufacturing workshop and a drone operator center were hit in Snizhne, Donetsk Oblast. A massive fire broke out there.
