Officials are developing strategies for a new coexistence with the United States.
European politicians are preparing for the possibility that Donald Trump could win the presidential election in the United States .
According to The Washington Post , citing conversations with 15 officials, politicians, diplomats and leading analysts from five European countries, strategies are now being developed to avoid a trade war and prepare for security contingencies.
Trump has threatened NATO unity and promised high import tariffs, and Kamala Harris, while supporting the North Atlantic Alliance, may shift the country’s attention to East Asia. However, the EU’s rapid response task force is primarily developing a strategy for dealing with Trump’s return.
“One thing is clear: We are not sitting here like a rabbit caught in the headlights. Regardless of who wins the US election, the US focus in the future will increasingly be on the Indo-Pacific region. The Europeans will have to do even more for their security,” said German Defense Ministry spokesman Michael Stempfle.
Europe is also trying to protect its support for Ukraine. According to journalists, officials are advocating for “pushing” aid packages to Ukrainians before the elections, and the new NATO command has taken over some of the Pentagon’s responsibilities for coordinating military aid to the country.
German MP and Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs Thomas Erndl stressed that Europe must now take on more responsibility, especially in matters of security:
“It is a fact that Joe Biden is probably the last president who is truly transatlantic in the traditional sense – in terms of his character and his career.”

“Europe Prepares for Trump Presidency”
How exactly? Starmer is broke, Macron foolishly had early elections done, which greatly hinders him, and Scholz is a coward, but also with huge domestic problems. None are in any capacity to take lead in one of the planet’s most important regions.
Papa is going away, and the children are in panic.
They all had plenty of time to get Trump-proofed. But, internal and personal problems have crippled the effort. However, once Poland is forced to fire the first shots in putler’s next phase of imperialism, they will realize that all the internal and personal issues they had are as interesting as counting sand grains. Once THEIR soldiers are fighting and dying along the full length of the frontline, all the problems they have now … will seem so flimsy and trivial … as important as a handful of sand.
I expect things in Germany to change for the positive once Scholz’s shaky coalition has been voted out of office. This will be next October, or maybe even earlier, seeing how the opposition is pressuring for early elections. I’m sure Germany will get the CDU/CSU back into the chancellor’s mansion; Friedrich Merz. He is pro-Ukraine and much more hawkish than Scholz. Then, Europe might get a leading figure to replace whoever is in the WH.
One thing I think we can all agree on is that NATO and greater Europe admitted they had to contribute more to Europe’s security and stop depending on the USA so much from across the Atlantic starting in 2017
This is true. Trump got that ball rolling. However and unfortunately, the ball never rolled very far. But, that was Europe’s fault, 100%.
