The former head of the rocket and space industry of the USSR, Oleg Baklanov, has died. This was announced by the head of Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin.https://t.me/tass_agency/66826?embed=1
Baklanov was 89 years old, the reasons for his death were not specified.
Baklanov in August 1991 was one of the members of the State Emergency Committee. After the failure of the coup, he was in custody for two years on charges of conspiracy to seize power, but was later pardoned. After the death of Dmitry Yazov at the end of February 2020, Baklanov was the only surviving member of the Emergency Committee.
In the 1980s, Baklanov headed the rocket and space industry of the USSR. In this position, he, in particular, oversaw the project of the Soviet shuttle “Buran-Energia”. From 1983 to 1988, he also headed the USSR Ministry of General Machine Building.
