The Italians are taking away their air defense system from Slovakia, it is needed “elsewhere” – Fico

Fico noted that now there is no one to defend Slovakia.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico announced that the Italian air defense system will be withdrawn from the country, reports Actuality .

“I have received a message from the Italian government that the Italian air defense system, which was leased to us for a year, will be withdrawn from Slovakia because it is needed elsewhere,” the prime minister said.

Fico expressed dissatisfaction with this situation, asking “who will protect our nuclear power plants and other strategic sites.”

He recalled that the previous government donated the S-300 air defense system to Ukraine in response to the start of the Russian invasion. “Then we had the American Patriots for some time, they also left, and now the Italians will leave,” he said.

    • Well, Veth, seems like Fico doesn’t totally trust Putin to safeguard his country, after all. Other European heads of state, plus the Slovakian opposition, should call him out and ridicule him for the obvious hypocrisy of his pro-Russian stance.

  1. Is Fico serious? What a nonsensical question, “who will protect our nuclear power plants and other strategic sites”! According to his own statements about Russia, there’s nothing to fear of, right? Hey, he has made his bed of nails, now he shall sleep in it! That’s only fair. I hope the Italian Patriot battery is send to Moldova, where it is needed to cut off the route for Russian attack drones. 🤨

  2. Why would he be afraid of RuSSian attacks if he were pro-Putler? I think he was playing games and scored an own goal.

    • Yeah, Mike, his sudden concern about Slovakia’s security is a political boomerang. His former statements pro Russia look phony now. 😁

  3. “Fico noted that now there is no one to defend Slovakia.”

Defend Slovakia from whom? His buddies in muscovy?
Ukraine is defending Europe right now, including Slovakia.
