The Secretary of State recognized the effectiveness of Ukrainian strikes deep into Russian territory and the successes of the Defense Forces on the battlefield
Russia will never achieve the goals it is demanding in Ukraine through military means .
This was the confidence expressed by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio during a hearing in Congress.
“Almost no one in the world, and I think even some Russians, has any doubt that the invasion of Ukraine was a strategic mistake. Russia will definitely not achieve its goals that it announced on the first day. And Russia may never achieve by military means the goals that it is now demanding in the negotiations,” the Secretary of State expressed his conviction.
He recognized the effectiveness of Ukrainian strikes deep into Russian territory and the successes of the Defense Forces on the battlefield.
Rubio also emphasized that the war in Ukraine can only end diplomatically, and the United States is not refusing to participate in the negotiation process.
“This war will end at the negotiating table. However, this is difficult to achieve, because the positions of the parties remain very far from each other,” he noted, adding that the Russian Federation has not shown any willingness to make concessions to achieve peace.
Therefore, the prospects for peace talks “do not look very optimistic at the moment,” Rubio added.
Negotiations to end the war
After trilateral meetings in February, negotiations in the Ukraine-Russia-US format were suspended. The reason was cited as the war in Iran.
To somehow fill the information void on this issue, the Kremlin stated that it considers such negotiations inexpedient until Ukraine withdraws its troops from Donbas.
