Experts say that this is the result of an attempt to take control of the Russian part of the Internet.
There was a large-scale Internet outage in Russia . According to the Durov Code telegram channel , which specializes in Internet technologies, a “large-scale breakdown” occurred in the RU domain zone.

“Hundreds of services and sites are currently crashing on the Runet. Currently, users are complaining about problems accessing the sites of large banks, marketplaces and other services frequently used by Russians,” the message says.
On social networks, Russians are complaining en masse that popular sites in the RU domain zone do not open (including Yandex, VKontakte and the website of the government services portal). Applications of various services are also unavailable (for example, applications from Tinkoff, Avito, Wildberries and others). It is impossible to access Russian sites, including from abroad, users say.
“Everything is broken, only telegram works for me. If that also stops working, the long-awaited digital detox will come. For the better!” – propagandist Olga Skabeeva wrote on Telegram .
As The Durov Code explains, there was a failure of DNSSEC – a set of extensions to the DNS protocol designed to guarantee the reliability and integrity of data on the network. Thanks to it, in the RU domain zone, the possibility of IP address spoofing as a result of attacks is guaranteed.
The Network Freedoms Project writes that the Russian authorities previously promised to transfer all users in the country to a Russian DNS server. “This is probably what is happening now with a lot of sites in the .ru zone,” reports the project’s Telegram channel.
The coordination center for the .ru and .рф domains confirmed a failure in the DNSSEC infrastructure. The director of the center, in a comment to Fontanka , stated that their specialists are “working to eliminate the problem.”
The Ministry of Digital Development of the Russian Federation promises that access to sites with the .ru domain will be restored “in the near future.”
Problems with the Internet in Russia: latest news
As UNIAN wrote, in Russia they began to turn off mobile Internet at night in a number of regions so that electronic warfare systems could work. The first “victims” were residents of the northwestern regions of the country, in particular St. Petersburg, where Ukrainian drones recently flew very successfully.
We also reported that in Kremlin-controlled Yakutia, the local administration cut off the work of the popular messengers Telegram, WhatsApp and Viber for the population. This happened amid protests by local residents against the situation in the region.

Better get your dial phone out of the attic, because mafia land is returning fast to the USSR.
What do ruskies need the internet for anyway? They get all the news and entertainment they need from RT, Sputnik, and Tass via TV and radio.
