In the city of Kupyansk, Kharkiv region, where enemy forces are surrounded, the invaders are gradually surrendering. Russian propagandists have admitted that the attempt to gain a foothold in the settlement has failed.
Viktor Tregubov, head of the communications department of the Joint Forces Group, reported on the operational situation on the air of “Edeniye Novyy“. The military officer emphasized that enemy assaults in the Kupyansk direction have not stopped, but the enemy’s pressure has somewhat decreased.
What is known about the situation?
Ukrainian defenders have already replenished the exchange fund in Kupyansk. There have been recorded cases when foreign mercenaries of the aggressor state, the Russian Federation, deposited weapons.
Although the enemy “military corps” declared the “loss” of the city, in reality they did not hold it, except for a short period in 2022, Tregubov noted.
“However, they themselves already admit that the defense of the city by the units that invaded it and tried to gain a foothold in the northern regions failed. And that it will no longer be possible to liberate them. That is, they have put an end to the city,” Tregubov said.
Meanwhile, north of Kupyansk, Russian forces continue to attack Ukrainian villages, usually several times a day. These are “cautious attempts to restore control” over settlements north of the city. The occupiers have not had much success in this task.
“As of now (December 25. – Ed.) they simply do not have additional capacity to somehow restore the situation. And here, it seems to me, the heads of individual generals will simply fly away. Perhaps, in the literal sense, they have already flown away. Because first receiving “heroes of Russia”, and a few days later receiving news that the city is not controlled at all – it seems to me that this was a shock even for the Russian leadership,” Tregubov concluded.
