One of the leaders of the German ruling Social Democratic Party, the chief minister of the North-Eastern state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Manuela Schwesig, colluded with Russia’s Gazprom to promote the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.

This became known thanks to the leak of documents, writes the British newspaper The Times .

Schwesig is accused of creating the Environmental and Climate Protection Fund, which covertly lobbied for the interests of the Russian gas company Gazprom, fought criticism of the Russians and sought ways to circumvent US sanctions.

Hundreds of emails and documents released under the environmental information law show that Manuela Schwesig worked closely with Nord Stream 2 AG, the operator of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. The company even asked to eavesdrop on “unofficial” briefings for journalists.

Schwesig was involved in hiring decisions for Nord Stream 2 AG. It is noted that this company was headed by Matthias Warnig, a former member of the Stasi (GDR state security ministry), who was friends and worked with Vladimir Putin in the 1980s, when he was a KGB officer.

According to the German newspaper Die Welt , Manuela Schwesig’s office worked, in fact, as a “branch of Gazprom”. Some of her speeches in parliament and interviews for newspapers were, in fact, written by Gazprom.

Documents obtained by the newspaper show a plan to hire “experienced workers” from Nord Stream 2 to the Environment and Climate Protection Fund set up by the Schwesig administration last year. Her name appears in the founding documents of the foundation. Millions of euros for this non-governmental organization, received mainly from Gazprom, were used to complete the pipeline and protect it from US sanctions, according to Die Welt.

Nord Stream 2’s communications manager also gave instructions to Schwesig, according to the released documents: “We should try to position the fund … as a ‘smart response’ to US tough behavior.”

After that, she gave a speech in the parliament of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, rejecting criticism of the project as an attempt to put pressure on Germany to buy “American gas”.

Manuela Schwesig also met frequently with ex-Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder of Germany, who is now the head of the Nord Stream AG shareholders’ committee and a board member of Gazprom. They discussed ways to avoid US sanctions, according to the German publication Der Spiegel .

It is noted that Germany’s friendly relations with Putin’s Russia are now seen as a monstrous mistake. Since then, Schwesig began to claim that “Putin deceived us all” and apologized for supporting the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. However, so far, publications have not been able to receive comments from her office.

  1. “However, so far, publications have not been able to receive comments from her office.”

Oh sure she going to comment. Maybe she will issue a joint statement with he cohort…Merkel!!! .

  2. She is a fall gal. No doubt, she colluded in this deplorable affair, but others in Germany did too.

  3. I will be easy on her.
I will give her only a mild punishment.
First she must be entirely deskinned and scalped. Then her ears, nose, fingers and toes must be removed one by one. Also her tongue must be removed and pay attention to the eyes.

She should also be sterilised to prevent her from reproducing.
Then her feet and hands should be removed, then her legs and arms.

Then it is time to set the remainder on fire.
I actually don’t think this should be done, because of law and human decency, but she for sure deserves this treatment. And so do all Merkels, Schröders, Steinmeiers and all others that were involved in the Nord Stream projects.

I think I have been very reasonable.

    • There is something to be said for drawing an quartering. It’s a bit more humane than what you suggest, but not too much.
