German Chancellor Friedrich Merz arrived in Ukraine on an unannounced visit to promise additional assistance in defending against Russian attacks .

Merz is accompanied by Economy Minister Katharina Reiche and ten businessmen representing the defense and energy sectors.

According to media reports, in Kyiv, Merz intends to assure the Ukrainian armed forces of the imminent delivery of thousands of interceptor drones designed to combat Russian jet-powered drones.

Furthermore, there are plans to intensify the production of long-range weapons capable of striking supply lines behind Russian lines. A total of one billion euros from the already approved budget is planned for these purposes, along with an additional 350 million euros for the repair and restoration of damaged power plants.

Merz said he came to Kyiv “because Ukraine needs all our support in the coming weeks.”

“Soon, the fifth winter of war will begin for the people. Russia is bombing cities, residential buildings, and thermal power plants.” However, Ukrainians are not allowing Russian terror to break them. “Today, I will tell President Zelenskyy: ‘You can continue to count on our support,'” he emphasized.
