On the night of May 5, the Ukrainian Defense Forces launched a series of strikes on Russian military-economic infrastructure facilities. The Ukrainian military confirmed the destruction of a number of important enterprises, including an oil refinery and a plant that produces components for precision weapons.
This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. They noted that the operations are aimed at weakening the Russian army’s ability to continue fighting.
Strike at the plant in Cheboksary
The General Staff reported the damage to the VNIIR-Progress plant in the city of Cheboksary (Republic of Chuvashia, Russian Federation). The enterprise specializes in the production of GNSS receivers and antennas for the GLONASS, GPS, and Galileo satellite systems.
This includes, in particular, the adaptive antenna arrays “Comet”, which are used in Shahed kamikaze drones, cruise and ballistic missiles, as well as correction modules for aerial bombs. The General Staff emphasizes that Russia uses these technologies for strikes on the territory of Ukraine, including civilian objects.
Damage to the refinery in the Leningrad region
Damage to the infrastructure of the Kirishsky oil refinery in the Leningrad region of the Russian Federation has also been confirmed. After the hit, a fire broke out on the territory of the enterprise.
According to preliminary data, this refinery is of strategic importance for providing Russian occupation forces with fuels and lubricants.
Other affected objects
In addition, during the day, Ukrainian units hit a number of other targets. Among them are a field fuel and lubricants depot in the Vedmezhe district of the temporarily occupied territory of Luhansk region, a command and observation post near the settlement of Smile, as well as the Kasta radar station near Yelyseyivka in Zaporizhia region.
There are also reports of damage to a logistics warehouse near Donetsk.
The General Staff notes that these actions are aimed at systematically weakening the logistics, management, and production capabilities of the Russian army. The scale of the damage caused is currently being clarified.
The SBU clarified that the attack was carried out by Alpha fighters together with the Defense Forces (SSO and SBS), fulfilling the tasks set by the President of Ukraine.
“Every barrel of Russian oil sold is a financial resource for the continuation of the war against Ukraine. That is why we are systematically working to reduce these enemy revenues. The deep rear no longer protects Russian strategic objects, because the SBU has repeatedly demonstrated the ability to act effectively at a considerable distance. Therefore, the Russian Federation must realize: no enterprise involved in ensuring the war will remain unnoticed by the Security Service,” the press service emphasized.
OBOZ.UA also reported that on May 4, the appearance of unknown drones was again recorded in Moscow. The Russian military tried to intercept them, in particular with the help of helicopters , in particular the Ka-52. The drones became known in the evening, when local residents began to actively publish videos on social networks.
