The fuel crisis in Russia is gaining momentum

08/17/2025

In Crimea and Transbaikalia, AI-95 gasoline has virtually disappeared from free sale, and where it is still available, it is only available through coupons for enterprises. The shortage was caused by Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian refineries, which caused supply disruptions and a sharp increase in prices.

This is reported by Russian media. This situation caused a real shock among drivers, who found themselves without access to one of the main types of fuel.

Residents of Crimea report that it is no longer possible to find AI-95 at the vast majority of gas stations. Where gasoline still remains, it is sold “by coupons” issued to enterprises and state structures. That is, ordinary citizens cannot refuel.

The price of 95th gasoline has also risen sharply, reaching 69.95 rubles per liter at some gas stations in Crimea, a record high for the region. In the absence of alternatives, this only pushes people to panic and creates a surge in demand.

The situation is not better in Transbaikalia – in the cities of Krasnokamensk and Borzya. There, many gas stations have stopped selling AI-95, and the prices on the signs at network gas stations are not displayed. There are announcements on the entrance doors of gas stations: gasoline is available exclusively for organizations.

“In Krasnokamensk, there is no 95 gasoline at any gas station. They say that supplies have run out. At the gas station of the Soyuz and K chain, there are ads that AI-95 is available only for organizations. At the Naftamarket, the signs are not lit: neither in Borz nor in Krasnokamensk. There is also an inscription at the entrance that says only for organizations,” one of the local residents told reporters.

Thus, access to quality fuel for ordinary citizens is effectively blocked. Experts attribute the shortage and sharp increase in prices to the consequences of Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian oil refineries. In recent months, a series of strikes have significantly damaged the infrastructure, leading to the shutdown of individual refineries and disruptions in fuel production and supply.

Russia is trying to compensate for the shortage of gasoline through domestic reserves and restrictions on free sales, but this has already led to the introduction of coupons and closed access to fuel for the population. The lack of fuel for ordinary citizens could seriously affect the transport sector.

People are unable to use their cars for work, transporting goods, or even to go to the hospital or the shops. This also affects small businesses that do not have direct contracts with gas stations and cannot obtain coupons. In addition, the situation creates risks of social tension.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, in the first seven months of 2025, the Russian budget’s oil and gas revenues decreased by almost a fifth, amounting to $69.2 billion, and July revenues fell by more than a quarter. The decline also affects key companies in the industry, as Gazpromneft’s net profit almost halved to $2.9 billion.

  1. As we see, Ukrainian style sanctions on mafia land’s oil industry are bearing fruit.
    Let’s have more.

  2. This is better than it looks. russky’s will be forced to put AI 92 in their vehicles which is garbage fuel. This will ensure their car engines will be destroyed quicker, especially in high compression engines.
