Ukraine does not recognize the legitimacy of the presidential elections in Belarus , since their results were known from the beginning of the election campaign.

The Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying that such elections could hardly be called fair, transparent or democratic. It noted that political repression had deprived people of alternative choices and the process itself had been turned into a “one-man political show”:
“Elections that take place under conditions of complete administrative control and political persecution, the absence of real political competition, the suppression of freedom of speech and the absence of media outlets not controlled by the authorities cannot be legitimate. It is a farce.”
The ministry noted that the people of Belarus deserve a better future than to remain hostage for another five years to a man who not only deprives them of the prospects for a decent development in the family of European nations, but also creates threats to neighboring countries.
