The White House is expecting a response to its one page peace proposal tomorrow from Ukraine. They have made it clear to Ukraine that this is the “final offer.” I have read the accounts of the text available from sources close to the process, and will summarize my sense of it in soundbites:
- Transactional, remarkably uncreative and unhelpful.
- Ratifies criminality.
- Specific where it benefits Russia.
- Unspecific on points positive to Ukraine.
- Utterly devoid of a moral compass as its foundation.
- Signaling the US repudiation of Western Law.
- A profit mechanism for USA, without clear duties for USA.
- Fundamentally Russo-centric.
- Dead on arrival – the known outcome when drafted.
- Prelude to blame shifting.
There are really only two ways to look at this proposal after three months of torturous U.S./Russia/Ukrainian debate.
In the first approach, Witkoff went to Waffle House, ordered triple pancakes, and scratched down on a napkin his idea of something that would make the loving Christian leader Vlad Putin happy. He wiped the maple syrup smear off the napkin, and handed it to Rubio who said… “Sure, whatever makes the Boss happy.”
In the second approach, the White House – realizing that after three months they had no idea how to solve any problems without holding Russia to account (which they will not do) self consciously decided to draft something offensive to Ukraine as their means to jump ship and blame it on Zelensky.

Comment from :
The US should recuse itself because they are not an honest 3rd party broker. Whatever the agreement becomes, Russia should not be benefitting. The EU should be brokering peace, not them. The US has no stake in this war, they are actually benefiting from resource agreements.

There is really truth to this observation. We are not a disinterested third party, in the sense that we are using it for profit.
DW P. It’s like why are Russia and the US benefitting? The rest of the world supported Ukraine and we aren’t asking them to pay us back. But Trump wants money back? This isn’t the America I know.
Thanks for sharing DW P.. The 5th point you highlight sums up everything wrong with trump, his appointees and the GOP representatives:
“Utterly devoid of a moral compass as its foundation”.
As a reminder to MAGA – more than 5,000 Ukrainians fought alongside 🇺🇸during the war on terror.
How many Russians fought with you?
What a betrayal!

If this is how it stands…it is sickening and repulsive! It is shameful! When Ukraine rejects the ‘demands’ of these bandits….will the US then run a covert mission through the CIA to take down Volodymyr Zelenskyy!? Just as they have done so in past history…..a US mounted “regime change”
Europe better get in there to protect him at any cost! His leadership value is unsurmountable and exemplary and must be protected!
Yet the US accuses the Victim…..
Thanks for sharing, DW
Unfortunately for us, DJT has managed to make us look like opportunistic bullies and thugs.
Zelenskyy just needs to say “No.”
This is, after three months, the final offer approved by the author of the famous “Art of the Deal” and, respectively, the USA by what is left of it. The great Donald Trump and the great America have forgotten one elementary thing (” every bird perishes on its own tongue “). The reputation of a man and even more so of a nation is built extremely hard, in years and decades for people and in centuries for countries, but it can perish by one’s own hand and in one move. Scripta manent !

America needs to stop meddling. They are untrustworthy and dishonourable. They stabbed Ukraine in the back by breaking the Budapest Memorandum that they signed. It absolutely disgusts me how the American government have behaved. Shame on them.

The FT article that triggered all this is not behind a paywall :
Vladimir Putin offers to halt Ukraine invasion along current front line:

To quote commenter Edwin Martinez II :
“Unfortunately for us, DJT has managed to make us look like opportunistic bullies and thugs.
Zelenskyy just needs to say “No.”
Unfortunately Zel knows that Krasnov will fly into a savage rage when his filthy plan is thwarted.
And that rage might be lethal for Ukraine.
The key European powers of Germany, France and the UK must unite FULLY behind Ukraine.
I think everyone had hopes that the convicted felon would come around after all, and help Ukraine, but, concurrently, the expectations that this would really happen were quite low. DJT, the worst president ever, has not disappointed the pessimists and the bloodthirsty russians.
…5,000 Ukrainians fought alongside of the U.S. during the war on terror. How many russians fought alongside the U.S.? A. zero, in fact in Afghanistan the pootin regime was paying the taliban to kill U.S. soldiers.
