Trump should announce his intentions so that the EU can develop a contingency plan.

The European Union is ready to financially compensate the withdrawal of the United States from a long-term multilateral agreement to provide Ukraine with $50 billion in aid to support its fight against Russia. This was stated by the country’s Deputy Finance Minister Pavel Karbovnyk at an event on the occasion of Poland’s upcoming presidency of the EU Council, Politico reports .

According to him, there is a risk that US President-elect Donald Trump will “walk out of the $50 billion deal.”

“Given the level of uncertainty, Karbovnyk called on Trump to announce his intentions as soon as possible to give the EU time to create a contingency plan,” the newspaper writes.

Karbovnyk noted that the final amount that the EU will allocate to Kyiv will be determined by the end of the year:

“If the worst scenario happens, we, as the EU, will ensure that 50 billion dollars go to Ukraine regardless of Trump.”
