According to the vice-president of the European Commission, Russia may still change its course when it realizes that “the West does not give up, regardless of the events on the battlefield.”

European Commission Executive Vice President Frans Timmermans believes Russian President Vladimir Putin is in the same position as Adolf Hitler in 1943. Then he had already lost the war, although it lasted another two years.

Russia is now a total pariah in the international arena, Timmermans said in an interview with  Nieuwsblad .

“Sanctions bite hard – I dare say. The war costs a lot of money. And Putin has already lost. He was wrong about the stability of the Ukrainians. Because no one else dares to tell him the full truth, including about the state of his army, which was ruined by corrupt officers “, the official said.

According to him, Putin can create chaos for a long time and bomb Ukraine’s energy infrastructure in order to force Ukrainians to leave the country.

“He uses energy as well as migration as a weapon against us because he knows that we are vulnerable in these two issues and can be divided, hoping that the political forces in which he has invested for many years will gain more political power in Member States,” Timmermans explained.

According to the vice-president of the European Commission, Russia may still change its course when it realizes that “the West does not give up, regardless of the events on the battlefield.” Timmermans added that other Western officials also shared confidence in Putin’s loss in Ukraine.

“Once Putin and Lavrov start to think that cracks are appearing at the front, they can hold out even longer. We must keep our ranks close, keep the front with the Americans and continue to support Ukraine financially and militarily,” he urged

  1. Putler can see the writing on the wall, hence the constant whining about negotiations. Nobody negotiated with the nazis after WW2 ended, they took them outside and strung them up.
