The Hungarian government was able to get the European Union to unfreeze a part of the money allocated to it, in exchange for lifting the veto on 18 billion euros of aid to Ukraine.
As Politico reports , Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán formally stated that his country is against granting money from the bloc. That is why Brussels started to prepare “plan B” so that Ukraine could still receive these funds without the consent of Hungary – through individual guarantees of 26 member states, instead of the European one. They wanted to avoid this, so as not to show differences in the EU regarding support for Ukraine.
It will be recalled that the EU authorities blocked the allocation of 7.5 billion euros to Hungary from the European funds provided for it due to problems with the rule of law, as well as “covid” 5.8 billion euros for the recovery of the economy. Because of this, Budapest blocked the allocation of 18 billion euros of macro-financial assistance to Ukraine.
As a result, the EU countries agreed to unblock 6.3 billion funds, and also approved the plan for spending funds from the “covid” fund – 5.8 billion euros for Hungary. However, this approval came with conditions – Hungary will implement 27 reforms in the field of fighting corruption and the independence of the judicial system.

Blocking by Hungary the allocation of money for Ukraine
On December 6, Hungary blocked the allocation by the European Union of a package of macro-financial assistance for Ukraine in the amount of 18 billion euros. On this occasion, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán tried to convince that his country does not resort to blackmail, even though it has blocked EU macro-financial assistance for Ukraine.
But already on December 10, the Council of the European Union reached an agreement on the package of financial assistance for Ukraine for 2023. The proposal of the European Commission was agreed through a written procedure and will be submitted to the European Parliament for consideration and approval.

Very weak.
This will make even a pro-European bert increasingly doubtful on the European Union.
This means we have just wasted more than 10 billion of tax payers money to fill the corrupt pockets of Orban.
I think we should just kick Hungary out of the European Union instead of these lame deals.
I don’t mind high taxes if they are being spend on useful things, but if it is just squandered to make a corrupt dictator even more powerful, I want to scream.
