At the same time, there will be exceptions for some categories of Russian citizens.

The European Commission has adopted stricter rules for granting visas to Russian citizens entering the EU . This was announced in an official statement on the EC website .

It is noted that this is due to increased security risks due to Russia’s baseless aggression against Ukraine and Moscow’s use of migration as a weapon, an act of sabotage, and potential visa abuse. Under the new rules, Russian citizens will no longer be able to obtain multiple-entry visas.

“This means that Russian citizens will be required to submit a new visa application every time they plan to travel to the EU, allowing for thorough and frequent screening of applicants to mitigate any potential security risks. The aim is to reduce threats to public order and internal security,” the EU report states.

At the same time, they added that exceptions are possible for human rights activists and independent journalists who are Russian citizens.Read also:

“We are currently facing unprecedented disruptions and drone attacks on our territory. We have a duty to protect our citizens. From now on, stricter rules will apply to Russian citizens applying for visas to enter the EU. Travel to the EU and free movement within it is a privilege, not a self-evident right,” noted Kaja Kallas, Vice-President of the European Commission.
