The head of European diplomacy, Kaia Kallas, stated that the European Union cannot act as a neutral mediator in negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, as it openly supports Kyiv and protects its own security interests, Euronews writes .

Kallas rejected the idea of appointing an EU special representative for negotiations with Moscow. According to her, the European Union is unable to treat both sides of the war equally.

“Europe will never be a neutral mediator between Russia and Ukraine, because we are on Ukraine’s side,” she stressed.

Kallas also noted that EU participation is necessary to balance the negotiation process and increase pressure on Russia. At the same time, she stressed that the EU’s role should complement US efforts, not replace them.

During an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers in Cyprus, the possibility of appointing a special envoy for negotiations with Russia was discussed. Finnish President Alexander Stubb, European Council President Antonio Costa, former Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi and former German Chancellor Angela Merkel were previously mentioned as potential candidates.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga, who also arrived at the meeting, said that the EU should focus on concrete steps, including the demilitarization of the Zaporizhzhia NPP and the creation of humanitarian corridors.

In addition, Kallas reported that EU countries are discussing a list of possible “red lines” in negotiations with Russia. These include non-recognition of occupied territories, cessation of cyberattacks and sabotage, return of abducted Ukrainian children, and payment of reparations to Ukraine.

Other statements by the head of European diplomacy

Earlier, the High Representative of the European Union, Kaia Kallas, stated that diplomats from the US Embassy had left Ukraine amid Russia’s threats to launch new missile strikes on Kyiv.

At the same time, diplomats from the embassies of European countries remain in the Ukrainian capital. However, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine denied this information and reported that American representatives remain in Kyiv.

Also on May 18 in Brussels, Kallas stated that there was no progress in the negotiation process to end the war in Ukraine . She emphasized that “pressure needs to be increased” to bring Russia to the negotiating table due to the weak position of the occupiers on the front.

  1. Ukraine doesn’t need negotiations, they need ammunition…
If there MUST be a negotiator, I suppose Erdogan could possibly be.
First, because the Filth already tried to “negotiate” there before, so they would have no logical excuse not to.
Second, Turkey has done practically nothing for Ukraine since 2022 and negotiating might force them onto the side of the Good Guys since they are still a NATO country and want to join the EU.
Third, ultimately, I can’t believe Turkey would want MORE problems in the Black Sea and without Ukraine, ruSSia’s intimidation in the Black Sea would surely flourish.
    Call me crazy…..

        • I would rather have my wiener cut off by a rabid piranha before aligning with the filthy turks. ⛪

            • Well, getting help from the turks is equal to Czechoslovakia being ‘liberated’ by the soviets during WWII. It’s like with immigration because of a shortage of workforce. One can either get workers from civilized countries, or from shitholes. Who chose the latter should not complain later. 😉
