Europe is preparing to impose the toughest sanctions against Russia in three years , aimed at seriously depleting the resources that allow Russia to continue its war against Ukraine.

According to TF1 , the head of French diplomacy, Jean-Noel Barrot, made this statement. According to him, the new restrictions should affect oil revenues and financial players in the Russian Federation or other countries:

“We want Vladimir Putin to finally agree to a ceasefire. Since President Trump proposed a 30-day ceasefire, Russia’s strikes on Ukraine have increased fivefold. This cannot continue, it must stop.”

Barrot noted that Kremlin ruler Putin is no longer making any progress on the military front, content with raining down missiles and drones on residential areas, resulting in a huge number of civilian casualties. “We intend to put him in his place,” he added.

Sanctions against Russia

As is known, the European Union is systematically expanding and intensifying sanctions against Russia, trying to eliminate sources of funding for the war.

The restrictions concern the energy and transport sectors, technology, finance and propaganda. The actions are aimed not only at pressure, but also at preventing the circumvention of sanctions. Despite this, Moscow has learned to circumvent some of the sanctions and reduce the scale of their impact on its own economy.

It is currently known that the European Union is already working on the 19th package of sanctions against Russia , which, according to Vladyslav Vlasyuk, Advisor to the President of Ukraine on Sanctions, will cover, in addition to the vessels of the so-called “shadow fleet”, Russian port infrastructure.
