On Wednesday, January 28, the aggressor country Russia lost another Su-34 fighter-bomber. The crew was also eliminated along with the plane . Later, it became known that the enemy had also lost a Su-30.

The loss of the plane was reported by Russian propagandist Fighterbomber (Ilya Tumanov). He first published a black-and-white photo of the Su-34, and then supplemented it with a poem. Information about the loss of the fighter along with the crew also appeared in other Russian public forums.
Later, monitoring sites reported that the Russians had lost a Su-30 in the southern direction. The plane was shot down in the evening, the crew did not survive.
There was also information that the enemy lost a Su-34 in the northeast direction.
“While performing a combat mission in the Kursk region at around 3:30 p.m., a Su-34 from a temporary deployment base in the Saratov region crashed due to a technical malfunction. The crew died,” they wrote on the network.
The loss of two aircraft by the Russians was confirmed by the head of the NSDC Central Directorate, Lieutenant Andriy Kovalenko.
What is known about the Su-34 and Su-30
The Su-34 is a Soviet/Russian all-weather, two-seat fighter-bomber developed at the Sukhoi Design Bureau.
It was designed to deliver precision missile and bomb strikes on enemy ground targets at operational and tactical depth, as well as to engage enemy air targets. The aircraft can reach speeds of up to 1,900 km/h at altitudes of up to 14.6 km.
In July 2025, the Independent Anti-Corruption Commission and Hunterbrook Media published a report identifying and establishing the origin of 1,115 of 1,119 foreign-made electronic components used in Russian Su-34 and Su-35S aircraft.
Manufacturers include Texas Instruments, Analog Devices, Intel, Murata, Maxim, OnSemi, Vicor and other leading companies. The main countries of origin are the USA, Germany, Japan, Taiwan and South Korea. In total, 68% of the electronics in the Russian Su-34 bomber come from the USA, another 16.2% are products from Japan.
The Su-30 is a Soviet/Russian two-seat multirole fighter of the 4++ generation. It was developed based on the Su-27UB.
It is designed for air superiority, long-range patrol, escort of long-range aircraft, radar surveillance, guidance and control, and can also be used as a combat training aircraft.
Unlike the Su-27UB, the Su-30 is capable of performing combat operations involving long range and duration of flight and effective control of a group of fighters . The Su-30 was equipped with in-flight refueling systems, navigation systems, the composition of the group action control equipment was expanded, and the life support system was improved. Due to the installation of new missiles and a weapons control system, the combat effectiveness of the aircraft was significantly increased.
As OBOZ.UA reported, last year the Russian Aerospace Forces lost 15 aircraft . Thanks to attacks by long-range SBU drones on five enemy airfields, even the more or less modern equipment of the Russian Aerospace Forces will no longer fly.
