The draft of the US defense budget for 2025 has appeared: there is no aid for Ukraine in it, – mass media

This is not about separate expenditures of the US federal budget for assistance to Ukraine within the limits of the recently approved $61 billion.

In the United States of America, they are already preparing for the adoption of the budget for 2025. The first draft of the Pentagon’s budget in the amount of 833 billion dollars was published the other day.

Defense News writes about it  . But the main point is that the project stipulates the cancellation of aid to Ukraine, as well as a direct ban on the supply of weapons to Israel.

The Ukrainian publication  Defense Express emphasizes that this is not about separate expenditures of the US federal budget for assistance to Ukraine within the limits of the recently approved 61 billion dollars. We are talking about 300 million dollars under the USAI program, which is prescribed in the US budget.

“That is, it does not cancel $13.8 billion in separate financing for the purchase of arms for Ukraine from manufacturers. It also does not cancel $23.2 billion allocated in this fiscal year to the Pentagon for the replenishment of defense goods and services provided to Ukraine, that is, the possibility of transferring weapons under the presidential withdrawal program – PDA,” the publication explains.

In addition, this does not apply to 1.6 billion dollars for Foreign Military Financing, under which Ukraine can purchase weapons from the USA for this amount free of charge. Therefore, it is currently impossible to talk about a direct threat of stopping the supply of US aid to Ukraine, experts emphasize.

“But this is a very unpleasant bell, because the submission of such a draft law is the result of the activities of the American Republican Party, or rather – its Trump wing. And this is definitely part of the pre-election struggle for the post of the President of the United States, because the vote should take place on November 5, 2024. That is why the draft of the new of the defense budget, which is promoted by the Republicans, includes, in particular, a significant increase in the salary of junior servicemen by 15% and for all in general by 4.5%,” the material explains.

There are also doubts that the budget will be voted on before the end of the presidential election in November 2024. But this situation quite clearly demonstrates that “political showdowns in Washington are a very unpredictable factor.”

  1. “draft of the US defense budget for 2025”

That’s from the Republican-controlled House defense spending panel. The linked article states, “over objections from Democrats, who cited […] a lack of security assistance for Ukraine”.

“But this is a very unpleasant bell, because the submission of such a draft law is the result of the activities of the American Republican Party, or rather – its Trump wing.”

Obligatory reminder – not all Republicans are putler-loving scum. Just far too many of them are.

  2. US to send new $225 million military aid package to Ukraine, officials say.

The U.S. will send about $225 million in military aid to Ukraine, U.S. officials said Thursday, in a new package that includes ammunition Kyiv’s forces could use to strike threats inside Russia to defend the city of Kharkiv from a heavy Russian assault.

The officials said the aid includes munitions for the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System, or HIMARS, as well as mortar systems and an array of artillery rounds. They spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss aid not yet publicly announced.

Under a new U.S. directive, Ukraine can use such weapons to strike across the border into Russia if forces there are attacking or preparing to attack.

The new aid package comes as President Joe Biden used his speech Thursday at the American cemetery in Normandy on the 80th anniversary of D-Day to vow that the U.S. “will not walk away” from the defense of Ukraine and allow Russia to threaten more of Europe. To do so, he said, would mean the U.S. has forgotten “what happened here on these hallowed beaches.”

The new aid package is being provided through presidential drawdown authority, which pulls systems and munitions from existing U.S. stockpiles so they can go quickly to the war front.

Officials said the aid package also includes missiles for the HAWK air defense system, Stinger anti-aircraft missiles, Javelin and AT-4 anti-armor systems, 155mm Howitzers, armored vehicles, trailers, patrol boats, demolition materials and a wide range of other spare parts and equipment.

    • Ok, but essentially yet another “small potaties” bill. And still no Patriot batteries in it? This, after Germany announced yet another one, the fourth? What the eff? 🤨

  3. It’s not only Maga-Rethuglican that create problems:
“Biden tells US won’t allow Ukraine to strike Moscow, Kremlin with American weapons”

So, when Russia destroys Ukrainian cultural heritage in Kyiv, there shall be no retaliation? What kind of an attitude is that? What is Biden thinking when drawing red lines for the AFU instead of the effing RuSSIans? ☹

    • “when Russia destroys Ukrainian cultural heritage in Kyiv, there shall be no retaliation?”

Ukraine has a number of weapons that can reach Moscow besides American weapons. The Orsk radar facility is more than 1,800 km deep into Russia.

      • Yup, Larry, only good that Ukraine developed and strengthened its own deep strike weapons. 😕

      • Larry, this doesn’t change the fact any that Biden is not capable of growing a damned spine for once in his life. Numerous signals this old man has sent to mafia land were green lights.

  4. A sensible opinion would be to say that the only tangible reality is that the USA no longer wants to help Ukraine in the medium term. We do not judge. We just need to stop quibbling and wait until December to plan strategies for possible help. You shouldn’t do it. It is a mortal risk. The scenario of 6 months of temporary blocking will not happen again!
