Ukrainian defense forces have recently advanced in the Pokrovske direction amid ongoing offensive operations by Russian troops in the area. The defenders’ successes are confirmed by geolocation footage, while some of the occupiers’ progress claimed by propagandists is unsubstantiated.

At the same time, military observers admit that the enemy captured one of the settlements a few days ago. This is stated in a summary of the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) for February 5.

It is noted that over the past two days, the Russian Armed Forces continued their offensive east of Pokrovsk near Kalynovye, Vodyanye Druhye, Elizavetivka and Myrolyubivka; to the southeast – near Promyny; to the south – near Pishchanye; to the southwest – in the area of Kotlyny, Udachny and Uspenivka. Russian bloggers complained about the attack of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the line of the villages of Sribne – Zaporizhzhia – Nadiivka (all southwest of the district center).

The Khortytsia operational-strategic group of troops reported that Russian forces used vehicles to transfer assault groups to the contact line north of Novoelizavetivka (southwest of Pokrovsk), of which the defenders destroyed seven units.

“Assessment of Ukrainian advance: Ukrainian forces have recently advanced east of Nadiyivka (southwest of Pokrovsk). Assessment of Russian advance: Russian forces have advanced to southern Srebne (southwest of Pokrovsk) and have likely captured the settlement,” ISW writes, citing geolocation footage published on February 5.

Analysts noted that Ukrainian military observer Kostyantyn Mashovets estimated on February 4 that the occupiers had likely captured the village of Sribne.

According to propagandists, Russian army units have advanced 1.5 km along the railway line from Kotlyne to Pokrovsk, as well as northeast of Udachny, and an unknown force of Russian paratroopers “have strengthened positions near Srebne and the village of Zaporizhzhia.” However, the progress claimed by the Russian Defense Ministry, in particular the fact that Russian troops allegedly captured the village of Baranivka northeast of Pokrovsk, is not confirmed by ISW.

As OBOZ.UA reported, a whole group of Russian assault riflemen recently deserted from the occupiers’ positions near Pokrovsk . In particular, at least eight occupiers – former convicts who served in the 1437th Self-Propelled Artillery Regiment of the Russian Army – escaped from the front line.
