The Moscow City Court satisfied the claim of the Moscow Prosecutor’s Office on the recognition of the Anti-Corruption Foundation , the Foundation for the Protection of Citizens’ Rights and the regional headquarters of politician Alexei Navalny as extremist organizations. This was reported by the press service of the Moscow City Court.

Organizations were banned from disseminating any information, performing financial transactions, as well as participating in elections and organizing actions. 

The court also ruled that the decision to ban the activities of FBK and Navalny’s headquarters is subject to immediate execution.

The Anti-Corruption Foundation, founded by Alexei Navalny, was included in the register of NGOs – “foreign agents” in October 2019.

In July 2020, Alexei Navalny  announced  the closure of FBK and the creation of a new legal entity – the Fund for the Protection of Citizens’ Rights. He  was included in the register of NPO “foreign agents” in December 2020.

In April 2021, the Moscow prosecutor’s office  filed a lawsuit  with the Moscow City Court to recognize FBK, the Foundation for the Protection of Citizens’ Rights and Navalny’s regional headquarters as extremist organizations.

Prior to the court’s decision, the Moscow prosecutor’s office suspended the activities of Navalny’s headquarters. Rosfinmonitoring has included the  public movement Navalny Headquarters (such an organization does not exist legally) in the list of extremists. In late April, the headquarters announced the closure.

In early June, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the so-called “anti-FBK law”. It prohibits participation in elections for people involved in the activities of an extremist or terrorist organization.
