Despite the announced launch of about a dozen shopping and entertainment centers, in 2024, for the first time in a long time, not a single new shopping center may open.

The reasons are the increase in construction costs, labor shortages and power outages, which delay the commissioning of facilities, writes the Ukrainian edition of Forbes.
Developers and consulting companies interviewed by the publication note that by 2024, more than 10 shopping and entertainment centers with an area of 10,000 square meters have been announced for commissioning. m. But currently the management companies are postponing their opening. Although even during the war of 2022-2023, about 10 new shopping centers appeared in Ukraine.
The biggest shopping mall announced for 2024 – the capital’s Ocean Mall, was promised to open on September 1, 2024. Currently, the start of work has been postponed to the winter of 2024-2025, but without specifying the date.
Back in April, the RDA company announced the opening of three shopping centers in western Ukraine in 2024 – Ukraine in Uzhgorod, A7 in Ivano-Frankivsk and “Rosvigiv” in Mukachevo. None of them will open this year, the general director of the company said. In advance, they promise to open next spring. At the same time, the reason for the delay in the opening of the Uzhhorod Shopping Center Ukraine is indicated by a decrease in the number of construction workers by 40%.
Other projects announced for 2024 include Itown in Odesa, “Temp” in Khmelnytskyi and several shopping centers with an area of up to 10,000 square meters. m, but their opening this year is unlikely.
The opening of some of the malls announced by the developers for 2024 has not been officially postponed, but it is postponed from year to year. It is, in particular, about the “Lukyanivska” shopping center, White Lines, April Mall in Kyiv. The situation is similar in the regions.
According to experts, no shopping center is expected to open in 2024. The only possible exception may be the Green Gallery shopping center in Chabany.
As reported, according to the survey conducted by the Ministry of Economy, the shortage of personnel came first among the problems of Ukrainian business. In particular, 58% of Ukrainian enterprises call finding qualified workers a problem. Among other difficulties, employers noted the need for external financing (42%), security risk (40%), competition (25%) and supply chains (24%).
The key reasons for the lack of qualified workers are mobilization and migration processes, which were named by 67% and 54% of respondents, respectively. Among the negative factors affecting the lack of labor, entrepreneurs also mention uncompetitive wages (36%) and internal migration (21%).
