Ukrainian soldiers recently advanced in the Lyman direction. The defenders knocked out the Russians from positions in the southern part of Karpivka.
On the other hand, the occupiers are advancing on the opposite side of the village. The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported on the situation.
What is happening in the Lymansky direction now?
Analysts have confirmed mutual advances by Ukrainian and Russian troops in the Lyman direction, in the Donetsk region. ISW confirmed this by geolocating footage published online on December 13.
Thus, according to analysts’ conclusions, Ukrainian troops recaptured positions from the Russians in the southern part of the village of Karpivka, located northwest of Lyman.
Instead, the Russians seem to have recently been able to advance into the northern part of this settlement.
In total, during December 12 and 13, Russian troops attacked near the Liman, northwest of the city near Seredny, Drobyshevy, and Yarovaya, as well as in the direction of Novoselivka and Oleksandrivka, north of the Liman near Novy Mir and Stavky, and east of Torske and Zarechny.
A spokesman for the 11th Army Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Colonel Dmytro Zaporozhets, reported on December 12 that Russian forces were attempting to attack Lyman, bypassing neighboring Yampil from the north and south. He also warned that the situation in Yampil could worsen if Russian forces continued these operations.
Zaporozhets stressed that bad weather conditions are the main factor hindering Ukraine’s defensive operations near Yampol. Currently, Russian troops are attacking mainly in small groups from the area of Serebryansky Forest (southeast of Liman) and, according to the 11th Corps spokesman, will try to concentrate personnel in this area.
Zaporozhets stated that natural water obstacles (primarily the Seversky Donets River ) prevent the enemy group near Yampol from supporting Russian offensive operations in the area of Serebryanka and Dronivka (both settlements are located east of Yampol, on the other bank of the Seversky Donets).
Liman, according to him, is a more important target for Russian troops than Siversk – given the occupiers’ plans to capture Sloviansk in the future.
Earlier, OBOZ.UA reported that, according to NYT sources, in the updated peace plan, Ukraine rejected the renunciation of Donbas and NATO. Kyiv made its adjustments to the “American plan”, which was previously discussed by the delegations of Ukraine and the United States and which, according to media reports, significantly deteriorated after the trip of Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and US President’s special representative Steve Witkoff to Moscow.
