Thank you 🇩🇰Denmark for standing with 🇺🇦Ukraine!

Denmark is the fourth largest provider of military aid to Ukraine, committing around 8.4 billion euros as of January 2024, according to IfW Kiel.

At 2.3% of GDP, Denmark is the second largest provider of military aid in terms of percentage of GDP.

📑 In February 2024, Denmark signed 10-year security agreement with Ukraine. The security guarantees will be financed by Denmark’s Ukraine Fund, which has so far earmarked more than $10 billion to the initiative. The fund’s financing runs until 2028.

We are grateful for this solidarity and support during the largest war in 🇪🇺Europe since WWII.

🗽 Symbolically I am standing next to Bishop Absalon, the city’s legendary founder who grew up with Valdemar I of Denmark (whose mother was Ingeborg Mstislavna of Kyiv (fl. 1137), a Ruthenian princess). Kyiv was very connected with Europe back then. Maybe even more than now.

  1. If you walk around Kyiv and walk around Copenhagen, as I have, you can see similar faces. I would guess it’s the Vangarian blood?

Congratulations to Denmark for helping their kith and kin.

    Here is some context:

    From HM Govt website

“The UK is one of the leading donors to Ukraine, alongside the US and Germany. The UK has pledged almost £12 billion in overall support to Ukraine since February 2022, of which £7.1 billion is for military assistance. £2.3 billion was provided in the financial years 2022/23 and 2023/24 and on 12 January 2024, the Government announced a further £2.5 billion of funding for 2024/25.”

    That comes to $15.27 billion.

To put the UK’s £12 billion ($15.2) in context, we built two new carriers at a cost of £3.5 billion each. That figure excludes the cost of the F35’s that fly off them.

So, Germany and the UK are providing half of one percent of GDP and the US somewhat less. How about meeting Denmark half way and stepping up to 1%? I’m talking to you : US, UK, Germany and France.

“Danish national Ukraine Fund, allocated 60,4 billion DKK (EUR 8.1 billion) for military support to Ukraine.”
