US President Donald Trump called the current situation in Belarus “terrible”, reports Reuters.
According to Trump, the United States is closely monitoring what is happening. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said earlier on August 17 that Washington intends, together with the EU, “to help the Belarusian people achieve sovereignty and freedom,” adds Reuters.
The European Parliament on August 17 announced that it did not recognize Alexander Lukashenko as the re-elected President of Belarus and declared him persona non grata in the EU.
In Minsk and other Belarusian cities since August 9, protests have been taking place due to the presidential elections. Lukashenko, according to the CEC of Belarus, won them with a score of 80%.
