The size and scope of these relentless protests in #Saqartvelo — and the ruling regime’s response — is as a testament to how far the government has gone against the will of its own citizens, and how little they understand and/or care about public sentiment.

The Georgian people are not backing down — this is a make-or-break moment for their democracy and sovereignty. However, protests alone will not be enough. Further raising political and public awareness in Western capitals is vital… Government leaders in Europe and the US have already blasted the ruling party’s decision to revive the #foreignagentlaw, but will they go even farther when the draft legislation gets adopted after the third and final reading on 17 May?

The Georgian Dream has made its mind up — the anti-Western turn is no longer an alarmist speculation, but an imminent reality. The leadership is deviating from any remnants of a European path and is fully prepared to contradict 🇬🇪’s national interests and the country’s constitution in order to maintain its own grip on power.

    • If Salome Zourabichvili vetoes this russian law, then what happens? Will the orcs try to assassinate her?

      • Because it’s Easter; a very important time in Georgia, protests were suspended until tomorrow.
As I understand it, she has vetoed it. But the problem is that Ivanishvili altered the constitution to put executive power with the PM; ie whatever putinoid scrote he inserts. The new one is a real nasty piece of work.

The outcomes are multiple and none of them good.

1/ The govt succeeds in its crackdown and continues as a dictatorship.
2/ the protests increase until the govt is forced out.
3/ the protests continue until the election in October.
4/ govt fixes the result and huge protests break out, resulting in the exile of Ivanishvili and his henchmen and another putler invasion.

And yes I’d say Mrs Zourabichvili has already put herself in the crosshairs of the putinaZis; being a democrat and pro-Europe.
