The Swedish government has instructed the country’s Armed Forces to transfer $30 million to support Ukraine’s defense capabilities, according to the Swedish government.
Thus, $18 million will be transferred to three coalitions within the framework of the Contact Group on Ukraine Defense Contact Group, and 10 million dollars will be transferred to the NATO Fund for Ukraine.
“We continue to support Ukraine and will do so for as long as necessary. Swedish support will gradually shift to purchases of new equipment from industry to be transferred to Ukraine. Thanks to these payments to the funds, we will be able to strengthen Ukraine’s defense in terms of drones, demining and strengthening the capabilities of the Ukrainian Navy,” says Swedish Defense Minister Paul Johnson.
Thus, Sweden allocates:
- 5 million dollars to the demining coalition which will be used for joint equipment purchases and training of Ukrainian personnel.
- 3 million dollars for the Maritime Security Coalition, which increases Ukraine’s capacity for safe maritime transportation in the Black Sea, as well as enhances the capabilities of the Ukrainian Navy in the areas of maritime surveillance, amphibious warfare, sea control, and countering Russian warships.
- 10 million dollars will be transferred to the UAV Coalition. With the support of the Drone Coalition, Ukraine’s drone capabilities will be expanded by training more Ukrainian soldiers. The support will also help Ukraine in procuring drones.
Swedish assistance to Ukraine
Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, Sweden has taken a firm stance in providing comprehensive assistance to Ukraine.
At the end of 2023, Sweden announced financial assistance to Ukraine to support the Grain From Ukraine initiative.
On December 11, 2023, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson announced a new aid package worth $133.5 million. These funds are aimed, in particular, at supporting Ukraine’s energy sector during the difficult winter period.
In addition, Sweden has decided to join the Czech initiative to supply artillery shells to Ukraine. $30 million will be allocated for this purpose.

👍🇺🇦🇸🇪✌️
Yeah, well, every little helps. Sweden is a cojntry of only about ten million people, and their support is nothingto sneer at. But the big news I, and many supporters of Ukraine, are waiting for, is the announcement of a deal about delivery of Saab Gripen fighter jets. That would be Sweden’s best contribution tothe defence efforts (the excellent Archer artillery systems coming second). Please get this done! 🇸🇪🙂🇺🇦
