A series of explosions have rocked the city of Aleksin, Tula Oblast, russia, damaging a key chemical plant for the defense industry of Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin.

The exact extent of the damage is currently unknown, russian media reported.

What is known

The city is home to the Aleksinsky Chemical Plant, which produces gunpowder, explosives, and other materials for the Russian defense-industrial complex. The plant is part of the Rostec Corporation and is strategic for supplying ammunition to the russian Armed Forces.

It is worth noting that Ukraine already attacked this plant last fall. Details about the victims and the extent of the damage are currently being clarified.

Notably, any problems at the Aleksinsk Chemical Plant could affect the production of ammunition and gunpowder for the Russian army.

What preceded

In November 2024, a nighttime drone attack on a chemical plant in Russia’s Tula region severely damaged the Aleksinsky Chemical Plant, which specializes in the production of gunpowder. At least 13 drones attacked the plant, causing significant damage and a fire. The plant’s personnel were urgently evacuated.

On the night of Saturday, August 30, drones attacked the Krasnodar Territory and the Samara Region of the Russian Federation. It was loudest in Krasnodar and Syzran – oil refineries were hit there, and fires broke out at the facilities.

On the night of August 28, explosions rocked several Russian regions amid drone attacks. Oil refineries were once again targeted. The explosions rocked the Novokuibyshevsk refinery in Samara Oblast and the Afipsk refinery in Krasnodar Krai.
