The proposed US “peace plan” for Ukraine has been found to contain language that appears to have been first written in Russian and then translated into English. The analyzed document contains at least several expressions that sound unnatural and suggest possible Russian authorship.
This is stated in the Guardian analysis , which notes that the third point of the plan is formulated in language more typical of the Russian official style . The article also recalled that the White House acknowledged the participation of Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev in creating the document together with Donald Trump’s special representative Steve Witkoff.
Russian phrases in the text
Journalists noticed that the phrase “It is expected” in the third paragraph sounds awkward in English, while the Russian “ожидается” is a typical form for documents of this style.
Other examples of possible direct translation are words like “ambiguities” , which corresponds to the Russian “неоднозначности” , and the verb “to enshrine” , which is a calque from the Russian “закрапить” . And, frankly, when you read such phrases in a row, you get the feeling that the document was not written by native English speakers.
Who wrote the document?
As reported in the Guardian, the White House confirmed that the text of the plan was jointly prepared by Kirill Dmitriev – Vladimir Putin’s envoy – and American businessman and Trump spokesman Steve Witkoff.
Work on the project took place during their meeting in Miami. Neither Ukraine nor European partners were involved in the process , which raised additional questions about the intentions and content of the document.
Earlier, OBOZ.UA reported how Donald Trump first commented on his peace plan for Ukraine and announced a deadline for its approval by Kyiv. The American leader said that Ukraine has a week to agree to his proposal.
