While Trump’s advisers are pondering a compromise that is disadvantageous for Kyiv, the NATO Secretary General pointed to Russia’s refusal to adhere to previous promises to cease fire.

NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg on Friday rejected U.S. calls to force Ukraine to give up territory or future NATO membership in exchange for Russian ruler Vladimir Putin ending the war, Politico reports .
“We cannot have Minsk-3. There is no sign that Putin … is ready to negotiate peace,” the NATO secretary general said at a press conference, referring to previous failed peace deals between Moscow and Kiev.
The publication recalls that the two Minsk agreements, signed in 2014 and 2015 with the participation of Germany and France, were aimed at stopping Russia’s first invasion of Ukraine in 2014. That year, it illegally annexed Crimea and then unleashed conflicts in eastern Ukraine.
“The Minsk agreement introduced a ceasefire and allowed self-government in parts of eastern Ukraine, but was seen in Kyiv as strengthening Russian influence over Ukraine’s constitutional order. It was never fully implemented. Russia tore up the agreement in 2022 when it launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine,” the article says.
According to media reports, allies and advisers of Donald Trump, the possible Republican presidential candidate, are developing plans to force Kyiv to abandon its attempts to recapture Russian-controlled territories and cancel its future NATO membership in exchange for a peace deal with Russia. Thus, Trump’s campaign communications director Stephen Chang recently said that “the main priority during his second term will be a quick agreement to end the Russian-Ukrainian war.” In turn, Putin said that he takes Trump’s proposal seriously.
“There will be no compromise regarding independence or territorial integrity,” responded the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak.
Stoltenberg pointed to Moscow’s previous behavior to justify Kyiv’s failure to agree to the peace terms laid out by the Trump camp.
“We have seen a pattern of Russian aggressive behaviour against Ukraine. The war did not start in 2022, it started in 2014, when they first illegally annexed Crimea, then a few months later they went into eastern Donbas, agreed on a ceasefire – Minsk 1 – violated it, went… further west, agreed on Minsk 2, waited seven years, and then went into full-scale war and took even more,” Stoltenberg said.
According to him, “what we need now is something really reliable, where the war stops and Russia stops its aggression, and therefore, when the fighting ends, we need security, we need to give the Ukrainians the opportunity to contain (the aggressor – UNIAN).

“what we need now is something really reliable, where the war stops and Russia stops its aggression, and therefore, when the fighting ends, we need security, we need to give the Ukrainians the opportunity to contain (the aggressor – UNIAN).
The solution is obvious. russia understands strength. Give Ukraine the weapons it needs in sufficient quantities at a pace it can destroy orcs on an industrial scale.
Politico sure has a good imagination. They claim a lot without following the number one rule in journalism, support your article with facts and sources. “media reports, allies and advisers” are not sources.
Well, this article lists some sources; some others would only speak on condition of anonymity:

But trumpkov himself said that allowing Ukraine to go into NATO is a mistake. So there’s no need to rely on anonymous sources to verify that.
RSM thinks Trump is a bad source about Trump.
Can’t fault him on that. trumpkov lies constantly, so of course he’s a bad source about anything.
Of course, if someone is deluded enough to think that trumpkov tells the truth, then they’d have to admit what he said.

” “media reports, allies and advisers” are not sources.”
Sure they are. “Media reports” aren’t first-hand sources, but all 3 are sources. A good reporter will use multiple sources for confirmation, but it’s not necessary that they all be willing to go on record.
“Give Ukraine the weapons it needs in sufficient quantities at a pace it can destroy orcs on an industrial scale.”
It’s bewildering that no one understands this simple truth.
