Steinmeier angered Ukraine with comment on gas project

Federal President Steinmeier’s comments on the controversial Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline caused anger in Ukraine.

Their ambassador in Berlin, Melnyk, spoke in a statement of “questionable historical arguments” that were received in Kiev “with alienation and indignation”. Steinmeier had defended Nord Stream 2 in an interview with the argument that energy relations were almost the last remaining bridge between Russia and Europe.

“Putin’s geopolitical project”

In this context, Steinmeier recalled the German attack on the Soviet Union and its 20 million war victims. Melnyk criticized that the dead could not only be ascribed to today’s Russia, as there were also many millions of Ukrainian victims. In addition, Nord Stream 2 is a geopolitical project by Russian President Putin that runs counter to Ukrainian interests.

The pipeline is intended to deliver Russian gas directly to Germany by sea. Ukraine is currently benefiting from transmission fees that it charges Moscow.

  1. “In this context, Steinmeier recalled the German attack on the Soviet Union and its 20 million war victims.”

WTF has this got to do with Nord Stream? Are Germany going to allow Russia to blackmail them forever? Not forgetting that the nazis went through Ukraine first, and killied millions of Ukrainians on the way to Russia, then killed millions on the way back. Your excuses stink of appeasement to a country that was jointly responsible for WW2.

  2. Steinmeier is a worthless oxygen thief, sitting in a worthless office for a worthless government. Many Germans that I know say that he is NOT their president.
