The State Duma’s Security and Anti-Corruption Committee will check the circumstances of the poisoning of Alexei Navalny for foreign interference. This was stated by the speaker of the Duma Vyacheslav Volodin.
“The State Duma Security Committee will be instructed to analyze what happened in order to understand whether this was an attempt on the part of foreign states to harm the health of a Russian citizen in order to create tension within Russia, as well as formulate new accusations against our country,” Volodin said.
The speaker expressed the opinion that the participation of foreign states in the incident is indicated, in particular, by the statements of German Chancellor Angela Merkel and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell.
Borrell and Merkel demanded that the Russian authorities conduct an investigation into the poisoning of Navalny. Borrell on behalf of the European Union also condemned the “alleged attempt” on the life of the politician.
