In particular, one of the most outspoken opponents of supporting Kyiv lost the election.
At least six anti-Ukrainian congressmen lost their seats in the midterm elections in the United States, Kyiv Post reports .

The publication notes that the key reason for the politicians’ defeat was not international politics, including their attitude towards Ukraine, but the poor economy and high prices within the US. In particular, the election was lost by a Ukrainian by origin, who was one of the most outspoken opponents of supporting Kyiv – Victoria Spartz.
In Indiana, where she had won by an 18.5% margin two years ago, Spartz lost by a score of 52-48%. The politician admitted defeat, but said that the reason for this was the Democrats’ dishonesty with her and Republican policies.
Three other Republicans who criticized aid to Ukraine lost in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. In particular, Derrick Van Orden, who strongly supported Kyiv in 2022, but changed his position a year later. His opponent, Rebecca Cook, defeated Orden, in particular on calls to increase support for Ukraine and pressure on Russia. In Wisconsin, Brian Steele, who was an outspoken opponent of aid to Ukraine, became the first Republican to lose his district in the last 30 years.
Scott Perry, the former head of the House of Representatives’ Freedom Caucus and a consistent opponent of US aid to Ukraine, suffered another defeat in Pennsylvania.
Meanwhile, the publication writes, one Republican congressman, Paul Gosar, who consistently voted against supporting Ukraine, regained his position after the elections in Arizona. However, during the race, Ukraine was not the main issue of his campaign – he mentioned it only in the context of criticizing US commitments abroad, with the exception of Israel.
