Major General Valery Muminjanov, deputy head of the Leningrad Military District for logistics, was detained in Voronezh on suspicion of taking a large-scale bribe. The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation took interest in the ‘affairs of bygone days’, when the defendant was working as the head of the Department of Resource Support of the Russian Defence Ministry.

The officer was in charge of clothing supplies to the Russian Armed Forces. The criminal case concerns the supply of uniforms to the troops, including to the special operation zone – Muminjanov facilitated, for a ‘modest’ kickback of 20 million roubles, the conclusion of contracts with commercial companies worth over 1.5 billion roubles.

What a strange love the generals have for frauds with uniforms, as if they were ragpickers. And traditionally, property worth more than 120 million rubles belonging to the detainee and his relatives was found in Moscow and Voronezh.

Investigators intend to check the legality of the acquired property. At the moment the question of choosing a measure of restraint for Muminjanov is being considered. It’s just some kind of competition between generals – millionaires, Shoigu’s ex-team is tearing to shreds the image of the military above of taking money.

  1. Corruption in mafia land is an important part of the crime syndicate’s system. The corrupt are allowed to be corrupt in exchange for loyalty and a part of the loot. When things change, corruption can become a Damocles sword for the individual who’s in trouble, which can be used to cut him down. Pun intended. This methodology is a core part of putinism.
