  1. Taco’s measures are better than nothing but still quite weak. Perpetual weakness is not what will stop a deeply evil ghoul like putler. Taco is not the youngest anymore. By the time he learns what this is all about, the worms will already be feasting on his orange flesh.

  2. Trump gave putler 2 weeks at the end of May to resolve this war and work out a ceasefire with Ukraine. This has now been extended into September. Nobody can persuade me that TACO isn’t morally bankrupt.

        • For years, Taco has slipped through every legal charge that came his way. The Epstein case could finally be his noose.
          He reminds me of Al Capone. Despite his horrific crimes, it was a simple tax evasion charge that finally put him in prison.

    Thune hits brakes on Russia sanctions package

    The Senate bill is now in limbo after President Donald Trump pledged to take action Monday.

    Senate Majority Leader John Thune said Monday he would hold off on advancing a closely watched package of sanctions targeting Russia’s trading partners after President Donald Trump said he was prepared to act himself later this summer if the nation doesn’t move toward a peace deal with Ukraine.

    “It sounds like right now the president is going to attempt to do some of this on his own,” Thune told reporters. “If at some point the president concludes that it makes sense and adds value and leverage that he needs in those negotiations to move the bill, then we’ll do it. We’ll be ready to go.”

    Trump on Monday threatened to impose “secondary tariffs” of up to 100 percent on countries that still trade with Russia. The Senate legislation would authorize even steeper duties on list of nations that includes China, India and Brazil.

    “We’re going to be doing secondary tariffs if we don’t have a [Russia-Ukraine peace] deal within 50 days,” Trump said during a meeting on Monday with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. “Secondary tariffs are very, very powerful.”

    A bill crafted by Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) that has 85 Senate co-sponsors would authorize Trump to impose secondary tariffs of at least 500 percent on imported goods from countries such as China, Brazil and India that still trade with Russia.

    It also would authorize Trump to raise tariffs on remaining U.S. imports from Russia to at least 500 percent, a move that likely would have less force than secondary tariffs because of previous sanctions that have already greatly reduced trade with Moscow.

    Thune suggested Trump’s threat meant the Senate would no longer need to pass the Graham-Blumenthal bill.

    “We are going to try as best we can … coordinate strategies with the White House, obviously with the House,” Thune said. “So we will have it ready to go at a minute’s notice.”

    For his part, Trump said Monday he did not think a 500 percent tariff rate was necessary “because at a certain point it doesn’t matter [how much higher the tariff is]. 100 percent is going to serve the same function.”

    In a joint statement, Graham and Blumenthal praised both Trump’s tariff threat and his plan to sell American-manufactured weapons to NATO for use by Ukraine.

    “However, the ultimate hammer to bring about the end of this war will be tariffs against countries, like China, India and Brazil, that prop up Putin’s war machine by purchasing cheap Russian oil and gas,” the senators said.

    Still, they added: “The goal is not more tariffs and sanctions — the goal is to entice Putin to come to the peace table.” Trump has already imposed a 10 percent tariff on imports from around the world, as well as additional tariffs on China since taking office, and has threatened a long list of other trading partners, including India and Brazil, with new “reciprocal” tariffs to pressure them on a number of fronts.

    Earlier this year, Trump said he would impose secondary tariffs of 25 percent on countries that import oil from Venezuela. So far, he has not followed through, raising questions about whether he made good on his latest threat if Putin does not budge.

    Two-way U.S. trade with Russia has fallen sharply in recent years, from about $53 billion in 2021 to $5.5 billion last year, as a result of sanctions imposed by the Biden administration and Congress following Putin’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

    Those actions included banning imports of Russian oil and terminating “permanent normal trade relations” with Moscow, effectively allowing Biden to raise tariffs on Russian goods to higher-than-normal levels.

    The United States, working with allies, also imposed a series of export controls aimed at cutting off Russia’s access to semiconductors and other technology items.

    The United States imported just $2.5 billion worth of goods from Russia in 2024, compared to $23.3 billion in 2021. Most of that sharp drop reflected the U.S. ban on Russian oil, which previously accounted for about 60 percent of total imports from that country.

    Fertilizers, an important commodity for American farmers, accounted for more than $1 billion of remaining imports from Russia last year, along with $877 million of platinum and $651 million of certain radioactive chemicals, according to the Commerce Department.
