Theft suspect faces up to 12 years in prison

The State Bureau of Investigation (SIB) convicted the director of one of the enterprises of the Volyn region in the theft of $253 thousand of budget funds during the construction of the Armed Forces of Ukraine barracks. The press service of State Bureau of Investigation reports.

“Investigators of the Territorial Administration of the State Bureau of Investigation, located in the city of Lviv, reported suspicion of the director of one of the enterprises of the Volyn region in taking budget funds by abuse of official position, committed in especially large amounts and official forgery, entailing grave consequences (Part 5 of Art. 191, part 2, article 366 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine),” – it was informed.

In particular, the pre-trial investigation established that the director of the enterprise, which carried out construction work on the order of the Western territorial apartment-operational management, entered false information into the acceptance certificates of the completed construction work.

Thus, he took control of budget funds in especially large amounts for a total of more than $253 thousand.

The State Security Service found that the contractor deliberately overestimated the volume of work performed and the materials used during the construction of three buildings of improved barracks designed for the needs of the military in the Volyn region.

“Construction work at military facilities was carried out in violation of design documentation, in particular, slag waste was actually used instead of crushed stone, the thickness of the foundation and screeds was reduced, and the structures were not properly waterproofed,” – the press service said.

In the case of proof of guilt, the suspect faces a sentence of imprisonment for a term of 7 to 12 years with the deprivation of the right to occupy certain positions or engage in certain activities for a period of up to 3 years and with confiscation of property.
