Details: Vučić described his conversation with Zelenskyy as “open and constructive”.
He said he and Zelenskyy discussed bilateral relations between the two countries, the European aspirations of Serbia and Ukraine, and opportunities to further deepen economic cooperation. They also discussed talks on concluding a free trade agreement between the two countries.
In this context, Zelenskyy and Vučić discussed a visit to Serbia by Taras Kachka, Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, which will take place on 21 May.
Vučić said the visit is an important step in further strengthening cooperation between Belgrade and Kyiv.
He also said the two leaders talked about the importance of dialogue and mutual understanding and agreed that peace and the preservation of human lives are priority values.
Background:
- It was reported earlier that Zelenskyy will not visit Serbia this week, but Kachka is expected to travel to Belgrade.
- Serbian broadcaster N1 had previously reported, citing sources in Belgrade, that a Ukrainian delegation was expected to visit Serbia later this week and could be headed by Zelenskyy himself.
- Relations between Kyiv and Belgrade have been complicated because of Serbia’s traditionally pro-Moscow stance.
- Since the start of the war in Ukraine, Vučić has visited Ukraine only once – on 11 June 2025, when he attended the Ukraine-Southeast Europe summit in Odesa. Vučić was the only attendee who did not sign a declaration condemning Russia’s war against Ukraine.
